Walking these halls along these walls

Med calls and bathroom stalls

A time to go to bed a time to raise my head

No more getting my hair braided

I can cut it low and ware it faded

I’m educated no longer aggravated

I had to do what I had to do to stay unstated

From behind bars in jail and a felon

Among stitches who be tellin

Can’t buy what their sellin

Scribbling on blank cards writing notes

To those who had my back and stuck by me

Time for me to go so long farewell good bye

No need to cry I won’t for you this is why

I been waiting for this day for a long, long time

I got a one way ticket to the next phase

I’ll be home in two days no more rat race

Eating off plastic trays no plates and long waits

Can’t wait to feel the raze on my smiling face

Mamas cooking and I’m ready to taste

Homemade corn bread, macaroni and cheese

Collard greens, black eye peas and baked turkey wings

I’d fly if I had wings instead of taking the train

It’s better than the bus so I won’t complain

Sometimes you have to surrender and don’t try to fight

Go away and get it right it takes time to make a wrong a right

Mama I’m home believe me I’ve changed

I had to go away, leave the pain and put out the flame

Change my element for some personal development

Emotional intelligent no more elephant in the room

Time for me to show off my new attitude

Like a brand new pair of shoes

I’m coming home and I’ll be there soon

Mama you’ll see you’ll  be proud of me

I got this hell out of me

This sounds a lot like me when I got out the Army, my last year Vietnam, talk about incredible joy back home back to the world, I envisioned me doing cart wheels down the street, Solid write
