By Samuel K. Byrd
As the flood gates of emotions pour open, love turns to fear, fear turns to anger
Often, it gets harder to distinguish what from what
Confusion begins to blur the line between love and lust
Not wanting to repeat past events hinders moving to new beginnings
Self doubt mixed with a sense of pain, frustration and mistrust
Often we turn away those that may actually want to be with us
To protect the heart and vow it will never be hurt ever again
We construct a wall to guard us from that very thing
To shield us from the pain that love is sure to bring
But is this wall protecting or destroying what could be
Because to guard against hurt you sacrifice happiness
To do away with hurt may also do away with total bliss
So do you run that risk and do you take that chance
Do you a roll the dice and let down the wall around the fort
Cause after all love is a game to be played not a spectators sport
