This is by far the hardest poem I've ever written. It took me 3 days and 12 sheets of paper to write this for my oldest brother who passed last month just a few hours shy of his 59th birthday.
It's okay to leave us
For this where we must part
God said you needed your rest
And comforted our broken hearts.
He said you fought a good fight
He said your course was complete
So He embraced you with His mercy
And gently rocked you to sleep.
He knew your soul was tired
He knew you didn't want to let go
So he led you to the place
Where peaceful rivers flow.
This is how it had to be
There was no other cure
By His hand you are now pain free
This day and forever more.
Thank you Mike for all you've given us
We'll miss you as time goes on
Although you're not here with us
In our hearts you'll never be gone.
