The New Chicago Fire - Killing On Fleek

CATEGORY

just different

Chicago hit a huge milestone
But this one will make you groan
500 killed
Such a bitter pill
The stat leaves you cold and alone

This is the new Chicago Fire
Situation seems rather dire
Same thing every week
Slaughter on fleek
Just like episodes of "The Wire"

Not the best of Labor Days
Grim Reaper just had his way
No one was blessed
13 lives swiped left
Path forward looks extremely gray

So what do we have in store?
Mayhem unseen since the drug wars
More homicides
NY & LA combined
A pace that shakes us to the core

The solution is very complex
Only question is what to do next
Inner city starved
For education & jobs
Drug trade fills the gap in this mess

As embattled Chiraq continues to rot
Black-owned banks provide a bright spot
Don't wanna be othered?
Then trade with your brother
Buy Black is our very best shot

Pivot back to stark reality
End of carnage we just cannot see
Folks can always cuss
It's still up to us
No one cares about us genuinely

Keep an eye on gentrification
A concept that's sweeping the nation
They want cities back
As black bodies stack
We kill each other and save them frustration

City's on pace for 600 kills
A number that negatively thrills
It's still not the record
90's were more checkered
Yearly crack trade put 700 on chill

Cops blame gangs and weak gun laws
Must scratch deeper to find the flaws
Babies making babies
We're doomed - don't mean maybe
Stripped naked right down to our drawers

Integration did us few favors
Fight for it made us much braver
Abandoned Black business
Neighborhood dumped in ditches
Made us easy prey for the slavers

Trump asked us to give him a try
Personally, I'd rather just die
His business roots
A strange and bitter fruit
Detroit church thing really didn't fly

Lots of local protests in Chicago
Most of them public never did know
They are deemed not a thing
Don't drive TV ratings
They disappear like a summer snow

The killing has to end, and it must
Society tossed Chiraq under bus
No man on white horse
Will chart a new course
At least not one that includes us
