Saturday afternoon
Turned into Saturday evening
And then into Saturday night
With a late dinner and the
Selection of old familiar tunes
By way of Pandora Radio
You know the artists we sing along with
From the 60s, 70s and 80s
The Spinners, Aretha Franklin,The Four Tops
Blue Magic, The Stylistics,
The Commodores with Lionel Richie
And Michael Jackson
Just to name a few.
Finally solitude.
I was left alone in my world.
Music, the scent of short ribs
Pressure cooking on the counter
And the everlasting taste of
Honeydew and strawberry
Spiked Jose Cuervo and a
Yeungling chaser to keep
The taste buds in check.
I sang, I danced, I cooked
And stopped at almost every song
To thumbs up my favorites
Which was just about all of them.
It was one of the best nights
I've had in a very long time.
Periodic visits from my friend
Passing through to step outside
For a breath of fresh country air
Sang with me on a few selections.
Being a musician himself,
A seasoned bassist in fact
Played behind a few famous notables
Back in the day
As I'm in my mode
I can see in my peripheral vision
He was motionless.
He had been lullabied to sleep
By the music and my air conditioner
As I wrote.
It's now 2 am in the morning
And I am showing no signs
Of being tired.
But due to the late hour
I must bring things to a close.
