A place where I once felt comfortable
Has changed.
Or was it I that changed?
Seeing things in a different way
My eyes continually scan the room
And sort things in an order consistent
With the dialing of my mind’s
Combination to unlock and reset
My uneasiness returning me to
My usual self as my smile
Stages the perfect Oscar winning front.
Never let ‘em see you sweat,
Greet the world with a smile,
Do what you love and love what you do
Make your introductions
Conduct your business professionally,
Teach and learn as much as possible.
Should you become unsettled in a way
Where explanations aren’t necessary
And you see things have
Run their course,
Trust your gut and
Finish your assignment
You see, the heart and mind
Are vulnerable to trickery
But your gut doesn’t lie.
It’s a part of your growth.
Sighs of completion makes
A content smile
Leave a lasting impression
As you bow out gracefully.
Sometimes you may have to do
Like my momma used to say,
Don’t let the right hand know
What the left hand is doing.
These are wise words when
Appropriately applied
With appropriately
Being the operative word.
But when you feel that change inside
Don’t ignore it.
It’s a sign that it’s time for a change
And like I said a few lines back
It’s a part of your growth,
Embrace it.
Change is as inevitable as
The inevitable is change.
Planting roots is fine,
It’s where home is.
But your journey truly begins
When you branch out.
