Never forgotten, the African American women of our past who worked in great houses and mansions on plantations across the lands
Undermastership, they were called enslavers or labeled as a mistresses maid
They were trained to attend to their mistresses requests
They were in charge of changing their mistresses clothes thoughout the day
Their responsibilities also included; House Keeping, Seamtress, Make Up Applier, Hair Dresser, Stylist, Laundresses, Cook, Server, Dairy Maid, Weaver, And Spinner
They had to keep up with the fashion of those times, expectations were high for them to maintain their own up keep
Hair, Nails, Skin, Hygene, and Clothing was closely monitored for cleanliness- neat
They extended quality time providing nutrional meals and care raising the children of their mistress
In the kitchen they prepared wholesome meals for the family and guest of the house
It took a team effort to set and wait the table with a closed mouth
After, the dishes were cleared and taken to the kitchen to be cleaned
When all at the table was cleared, the table was to be reset, table clothes changes or turned if stained, utensils set out in order with clean clear glasses around the table
For those women their jobs weren't as laborous as the other enslaved that worked the land and fields
But it was just as exhausting physically and mentally
Fast foward on today, we all know those days are behind us but it's encouraged to never forget and pay homage to every enslaved women that provided service in such a vassalage situation
