It is not easy to hold this unit together
Strife, selfishness, envy and jealousy
Lack of communication piss poor relations
Out of the same womb one after another
Stair stepped on top of each other

But still we can’t stand too much time with one another
Always fighting and back biting each other
Still one don’t have no more than the other
Many different fathers but the same mother

The seeds we sow we are going to reap
Mad at each other so we don’t speak
Pawing and clawing for mother’s lack of affection

We are Jacob’s and Esau’s
Cain’s and Abel’s

We bring nothing of value to the table
Mother knows our contempt and she knows why
You can see the guilt in the mist of her eyes
She gave birth to these monsters that despise
Their hair, their nose and their eyes

“THAT’S NOT YOUR BROTHER”
“THAT’S NOT YOUR SISTER”

In school they gave us hell

Your hair is fine and not nappy like mines
Your skin is light not Africanized like mines
You don’t know your daddy but I know mines

How can I love what pushes me away
We grew up too fast I wish our younger
years would have lasted longer

We hold in our anger then we burst
I do my best because I was born first
You all have to meet me half way
I’m running out of words to say

We played as children we had our share of fights too
Mother was not the greatest but she did the best she could do
We can’t help that the tree that we fell from was not fully-grown
We never realize how much we need each other until one is gone

We are blood through and through
whether you don’t like me
And I don’t like you

Whether you don’t look like me
And I don’t look you

I’m sorry you didn’t get to know your dad
I knew him and he wasn’t so bad

I’m sorry that your life was rough
I tried to hang in there till I had enough
I know that you are angry because
I was the one who got out

I had to go find out what life was about
You could have gotten out just like me too
I dodged a bullet yes that’s true

Nothing was holding you
But you chose to stay and give birth
To one child after another
Sounds like someone we both know
Could it be our mother?

We are Jacobs and Esau’s
Cain’s and Abeles

Our paths are chosen
I said my prayers like Jabez
I refused to pick up and walk with mothers bed

Remember for you all how I use to fight
Take a belt to my ownto keep her from whooping yours

Remember when we use to call one of our mothers sons
An African booty scratcher

Though he’s 49 he has not forgotten
Yes he’s bitter cause he hates his name
What a hazard the name mother gave him
In Greek means bastard

The things we did and said to each other wasn’t right
You could cut the grudges in half with a knife
My last words to you all in case I never see you again
I love you all from deep within we are blood we are kin

P.S
I only wish that we were friends
