I kept tightning screws on a ship already sinking kept bailing water back into the deep every day sumthin new gave way a railing a promise a person I watched us come apart enough to memorize it thats the cruel part nothing sinks all at once it happens inch by inch wave by wave quiet like the age of rust and I kept pretending my hands were stronger than the ocean kept holdin broken things long enough to crack into pieces in end the wake of the storm left two people standing in the wreckage surprised the sea came in
