How can I stand tall, when certain laws were designed to keep me small?
That is a fact, unforntunately, that cant be debated at all
How can I breathe, when Ive been conditioned to believe this air isnt meant for me?
Or maybe we all share the same air, its just that mine isnt free?
Before you viewed my struggle with genuine apathy, but now youve taken noticed because its plastered all on your tvs and magazines
Combat #blacklivesmatters and you do it so casually, then you wanna be friends-close my eyes
What the *** is Happening???!!!!
Losing control, slipping in and out of reality
Gotta keep my composure, dont wanna end up a casualty
So there is a unmeasurable strength in my silence, dont mistake it for being cowardly
In 1963 a black man Had A Dream, 52 years later and its the same damn thing
You can say there’s progress, but what was the cost?
To see what has been gained, how can you ignore what has been lost?
Now I dont mean this to belittle, but cant possibly understand how to fight just to settle
When they put a limit on my sky with a lid to the kettle, I fought hand, tooth, and soul just to unbalance the level
Modern day slavery, and to get out some say you gotta make a pact with the devil
While some would rather see me running with a pack full of devils, just so I can be reshackled with metal
Or a bullet in the back by a man whos hand once, pridefully, clasped to a medal
With thunderous applaud and support from his brethren, who have no care for my brethren
And the message is not, comply because its right but comply so you dont get shot-thats a horrible lesson
Im from a culture inside a culture that outdates the original culture but its fabrics disheveled
You cant walk in my shoes, but look through my eyes at an imperfect, great nation with unsavory flaws
Because a harsh truth today might save us tomorrow....
