In the eye of the storm there’s
An untouchable peace that
Despite ongoing surrounding events
It’s the one place where
Everything is calm and serene.
The sun is shining, the winds are calm
Everything is as it should be
Free of turmoil and destruction.
It’s the one place that exists
In every tornado
In every hurricane and in the
Hearts and souls of every one of us.
As we ride the rollercoaster of life
We’re challenged, we’re tested
We’re experimented on like
Research animals just to see
What makes us tick.
We become embroiled and outraged
Whenever we or a loved one
Have been hurt.
We get angry when we see things
We can’t control or help with
And just as things are spinning
Out of control and we’re forced
To let go due to the strain
Of the centrifugal force of our storm.
It’s only when we let go
That an arm reaches to grab ours
Just in the nick of time
And we find ourselves in that eye.
Like a patient whose heart
Has been restarted and they
Take their first breath of life, again.
Calmed within the embrace
Of the eye we find ourselves
Taking a moment to catch our breath
We cry, we smile and we praise
We regain our strength
We regain control
But more than anything
We have weathered the storm
We live to fight another day.
Despite ongoing surrounding events
As the winds dissipate
The familiarities you were used to
May not be as familiar
As you remember.
And as you rise to your feet
Assessing your surroundings
Things undoubtedly will be different,
But one thing will remain the same.
When the storm is over,
I’ll be there waiting for you
To continue on our journey
Through life.
