Today we celebrate our elders
Whose light we’ve followed
Throughout our lives
With whom we’ve shared
Endless conversations with.
Our ups and downs and ins and outs.
Heeding their knowledge and wisdom
Passing it on to the next generation
Like ripples on the water’s surface.
They have been
Our beacon of light in the fog
Our shoulder to lean on when worried
A listening ear when needed,
That handshake and hug that
Gave us a renewed strength.
The company whose presence alone
Was sufficient for us.
So here’s to the grandparents,
Great grandparents, Aunties
Uncles, first and second cousins.
Thank you for your support,
Your wisdom, the butt whoopings
But most of all thank you
For being the leaders of the pack!
