lightness in the dark
Hey there my fellow poets! Blessings and greetings to you all for a prosperous new year. Life has been pretty rough for me since I last posted but nonetheless, as always with God's mercy and grace I've persevered. I'm finally at a point where I can start posting again. I so miss being on here and reading everyone's works. I hope that everything is going well for everyone. Let's keep the inklove flowing!

In the City: A day at the Hall of Justice

In the city it's a
Whole different world
Filled with people from all walks of life
Some hair straight, some curled.
From those who seem to have the least
To those who want the most
Some you could tell had full meals
Others only toast.
Mothers and fathers
Of different races
Struggle to gain control of kids
With stern looks upon their faces.
Children of all ages are here
From babies to tweens
A day missed from school
Their faces gleam.
Attorneys outside the courtroom
Discussing cases
Conferring with clients
And covering their bases.
Sherriff's deputies stand guard
Assuring order is kept
As people are served properly
And boundaries aren't overstepped.
A familiar face in passing
Says, "hello, how are you today?"
"Just fine," you reply
As you move on your way.
Languages of all kinds
Ring throughout the halls
As folks sit and wait
For their names to be called.
In and out the doors swing
Up and down the elevator goes
Sneakers squeak, shoes tap
Heels sound off as people come and go.
Voices and sounds ring out one last time
Ending on a "d"issipated flat as glass doors close
Softer melodies come to tune as I walk to my car
Revealing my smile as away I drove.
In the country it's a whole different world
Of corn fields, horse farms and spaced houses
Some roads straight, some curved.

Natures presence is undeniable in the country..still, I can't deny the energy of the city. Loving both, I am torn..💔

I hear you Ezell-Dazh, although at first it wasn't too bad, I've always been a country girl but I'm also grateful for the experience of seeing a different way of life. There's a message in every line. This is so POWERFUL, it could be an anthem.
